i am getting to know you the wrong way

What were we talking about again? My thoughts are interrupted. *Why are you on that drug, that bottle over there?*

As a pharmacy student, you are expected to sleep with drugs, both literally and figuratively. You flirt with them, date them and eventually build relationship and a life with them. If you are not into drugs and the wonders they could do, why would you want to go through hell other than being forced to live up to your parents dreams instead of yours?

Pharmacy course is tough only if you are not interested in becoming a pharmacist.

As a pharmacy student, you are expected to be curious about drugs. You want to touch them, feel them, smell them and get to know them, and remember details about them inside out. Each time you set your eyes on new drugs, the first thought in your mind should be, hold on; let me do a background check on that babe, and you strip proceed to strip her naked and feast on the new facts.

As a pharmacy student, you are expected to know every single piece of information about any drug. If you are into drugs, you will soon have a general idea and personalized database about the popular drugs prescribed out there at your fingertips, what they are used for, the disease or illness the drug suppose to treat, mode of action, interactions, side effects profile etc. All those details define who you are.

As a (future) healthcare professional, you too gain access to a lot of confidential information and it could be little uncomfortable at times, knowing too much could backfire once in a while. You knew dirty secrets about the people you interact with, and the secret dwells in you.

Oh, Mr. James there has [insert illness] and he is on [insert drug here].

Mrs. Smith is on HAART (Highly Active Anti-Retroviral Therapy) for her HIV.

If there is Valtrex – valacyclovir in your room, the first bell in my head would be genital herpes. The list goes on with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) – depression, Cialis & Viagra – tadalafil & sildenafil, oral contraceptive pills, just to name a few.

I always fail in holding my thoughts back, and ultimately I fail not to judge you as a friend. I invaded your privacy without your permission and knowledge.

One part I did not enjoy being a pharmacy student.

None of my friends enjoy talking about vagina thrush or contraceptive methods over the dinner, other than pharmacy nerds. We have our own comfort zone.
